Book Week 2018

Book Week 2018

There was great excitement in St. Paul’s last week during our annual Book Week. The children spent time browsing and buying books from the huge selection of books on display in the PE Hall. We were also very lucky to have the award winning children’s author Benji Bennett visit the children from Junior Infants to Second Class. Benji had lots of fun meeting the children, reading his books, signing autographs and he even taught the children a song from one of his books. The children (and staff!) thoroughly enjoyed Benji’s visit and some were eager to know when he’d be visiting again, before he’d even left the school! We finished the week off with the children dressing up as a character from their favourite book. As well as having lots of fun, we also raised over €5,400 which will be spent directly on books for the children’s libraries in their classrooms and for the main library. Thank you to everyone for their support during the week.

Biodiversity – Variety is the Spice of Life!

Biodiversity – variety is the spice of life!

The Green School committee is continuing their work on the Biodiversity theme this year. We have met and discussed our targets and action plan for term 1. We are busy drawing up maps of our school grounds and environment so that we can carry out an audit in the coming weeks to see where improvements can be made. There may be work in Ordnance Survey for some of our committee members in the future!

Of course here in St. Paul’s we love to take pride in our school grounds so Grandparents’ Day was the perfect opportunity to showcase our lovely building both inside and out. The Green School committee carried out a litter pick. We were amazed at the amount of rubbish that can be blown in from outside the school and at how our lovely trees, plants and shrubbery can act as traps for all sorts of litter.

Grandparents’ Day

Grandparents’ Day

We had a very busy day in St. Paul’s last Friday as we had lots of Grandparents visit us for Grandparents’ Day. The day started off with a mass for Grandparents in the Church where Third Class sang beautifully in the choir. Grandparents were then invited back to the school for tea and coffee and were treated to some lovely performances from Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Class. Our visitors were then free to wander the school and pop into their Grandchild’s class for a chat. The children really enjoyed their visits and had lots of fun with their Grandparents including playing games, colouring, reading books, interviewing their Grandparents, singing songs and we even had one Grandfather who sang a song to the class! The whole school community really enjoyed the day and everyone left school last Friday with big smiles on their faces! Thank you to everyone involved for making it such a wonderful day.

Funky Fruit Friday

Funky Fruit Friday

We had one boy in Senior Infants who made a massive effort for Funky Fruit Friday this week and we just had to share a photo! Well done John for all your hard work and we hope you enjoyed your delicious fruit parrot!

Student Council Elections

Student Council Elections

A very well done to all the students in Fifth and Sixth Class who put their names forward to be on this year’s Student Council. The students worked very hard in their presentations, making election posters and coming up with new ideas for the school. Maith Sibh!
