A Snapshot of Senior Infants 2016/2017!

A Snapshot of Senior Infants 2016/2017!

We had a super-de-duper year in Senior Infants Room 5 filled with lots of learning and oodles of fun!! Here is a snapshot of some of our favourite memories:

In September, we were happy to be back at school and looking forward to Senior Infants. We had fun painting self-portraits in Art – it wasn’t easy! We created our very own superheroes and decided that we were going to have a super year! In October, we had a popcorn party to help us learn about the effects of heat on different materials. Some of us wore very spooky costumes on Dress-up Day! In November, we did some work on houses and homes. We designed a house that we would like to live in and made it using a shoe box, coloured paper and paint. In December, we practised for our Christmas Play. We especially enjoyed the dress rehearsal, which we performed in front of the other classes. In preparation for Christmas, we made beautiful Nativity silhouette scenes using paint, black paper, lollipop sticks and chalk. In January, we spent a lot of time learning about water. We did an experiment to find out which materials are waterproof, so we tested newspaper, a plastic bag, a rubber glove, a towel, tinfoil and cotton wool. We really enjoyed making plastic bottle penguins in Art too! In February, our Aistear theme was Spring and Caring for Our Environment. We opened a Garden Centre to help us learn about plants and caring for flowers. Love was in the air coming up to Valentine’s Day, and we made Cupid Cups. We finally got to make our rice krispie buns and they were delicious!! In March, we celebrated Ratoath GAA Day in style wearing our GAA jerseys. During Seachtain na Gaeilge, Ms. Smith visited our class to teach us about Irish music and instruments. We had lots of fun making Leprechaun masks for our assembly performance! In April, our Aistear theme was Transport and Travel. We really enjoyed playing in the Airport. Outside, we did car colour and traffic surveys, counting plenty of red, black and silver cars, and we even spotted a bus and a lorry! In Science, we went on a magnet hunt around the classroom. In May, we learned about all of the tiny little creatures around us called mini-beasts. It was a very hot day for our mini-beast hunt so lots of them were hiding! Just like real scientists, we had clipboards and checklists to mark each mini-beast that we spotted. In June, there was some beautiful, sunny weather, and one afternoon, our classroom was so warm that we needed ice-pops to help us cool down. Yuuuummy!

Senior Infants are preparing for Hallowe’en! Last week, we really enjoyed learning about spiders in Science. Do you know how many legs a spider has?? We made these spiders in Art that we can use as bags for trick ‘r’ treating – we can’t wait! HAPPY HALLOWE’EN!!
