Sixth Class were performing at assembly this month. We sang “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen as a tribute following his recent passing. We also sang “Amhrán na gCupán” or “The Cup Song”, which involved the children learning a rhythmic pattern using cups. They put a huge amount of work into these songs and they performed them exceptionally well last Friday.
Also this November, we were learning about Impressionism as an art movement. We studied the work of Impressionist artists such Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. The children then produced their own paintings using Impressionist techniques inspired by “Field of Poppies” by Vincent Van Gogh. The end results were fantastic and the children had a lot of fun.
This month in Science, we were learning about electricity and magnetism. The children designed and constructed their own series and parallel circuits. We also learned about how magnets work and we designed and made our own compasses. After this we did a little bit of orienteering outside. The children enjoyed working cooperatively on these activities.
